About SubEasy

SubEasy is a free auto subtitle generator built on one simple belief: creating captions for your videos should not require handing your footage to a stranger's server, signing up for yet another account, or paying a subscription for a task your own computer can already do.

What SubEasy does

SubEasy turns the spoken audio in a video clip into accurate, timestamped subtitles in seconds. Open the site, drop in a video up to 60 seconds long, and an on-device AI model transcribes the audio into a subtitle track you can review and download as an SRT file. The SRT drops straight into CapCut, Adobe Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve, Final Cut Pro, and most other editors and players — no conversion required.

The tool is designed around the short-form era. TikTok, YouTube Shorts, and Instagram Reels dominate attention, and the single highest-return edit on any short clip is adding subtitles, because the majority of social video is watched with the sound off. SubEasy exists to make that edit take seconds instead of an hour of manual transcription.

Why we built it

Most subtitle tools hide an uncomfortable trade in the fine print. To generate captions, you first upload your raw footage to someone else's infrastructure. For creators that footage can be unreleased videos, client work under NDA, family moments, or internal business recordings — material you have no way to fully retract once it leaves your device.

Modern browsers changed the equation. With WebAssembly and the GPU in your phone or laptop, a speech-recognition model can run locally, in real time, without any server at all. SubEasy is built entirely on that capability: the AI model downloads to your browser on first visit, then every transcription happens on your own hardware. We never see your video, hear your audio, or store your subtitles. Closing the tab wipes the working data from memory.

Privacy is the architecture, not a feature

We do not operate servers that receive video uploads, because the product does not need them. There is no account system, so there are no usernames, passwords, or email databases to leak. There is no analytics pipeline attached to your footage. The complete details live in our privacy policy, which we keep short on purpose — there simply is not much to disclose when nothing is collected.

Free, and staying free

Every computation in SubEasy happens on your device, which means our marginal cost per subtitle generation is effectively zero. We pass that saving to you in full: no free tier with a paywall behind it, no "first 5 minutes free," no watermark on your SRT file, no feature locked behind an account. The site is supported by a small amount of display advertising, which you can read about in our privacy policy. Ads never touch your videos.
